My diploma thesis called "The Meander publishing house" characterizes this publishing house in the context of the current state of the book market and children's reading. There is a paradoxical situation in the Czech Republic. Although literary production of books for children and young people increases a lot in recent years, recent readership surveys show a significant decline in reading habits. There are several institutions in the Czech Republic trying to enforce the motivation to read and to support high-quality children's publishing. The Meander publishing house is annually involved in encouraging children to read through the festival called "Děti, čtete?" (Children, do you read?). The Meander publishing house offers the quality outstanding books which resulted in increasing of the literacy level of the Czech Republic. The publishing house is connected with the name Petr Nikl, an author, artist, theater artist and musician. He is a well-rounded Czech artist and thus he is considered to be one of the most significant personalities of Czech culture. Linguistic analysis of Petr Nikl's works

The content of this paper is a linguistic analysis of Petr Nikl's texts. Petr Nikl is an all-round artist. His main activity is graphic arts; he is also engaged in the Puppet Theater, he sings with a music group Lakomé Barky and writes children books. The aim of this study is to determine if the author respects the child perspective in his works. Especially if he uses only such language elements, that are appropriate for children. After a thorough analysis of all Nikl's books (Pohádka o Rybitince (2001), O Rybabě a Mořské duši (2002), Lingvistické pohádky (2006), Záhádky (2007), Jělěňovití (2008) a Niklův Blázníček (2009), I concluded that the author respects only some elements of the perspective of a child. The syntactic structure of the text is uncomplicated and therefore children appropriate. From the lexical point of view the situation is not so clear. The author uses simple metaphors, similes, uses words that mostly originate from the national origin, and often uses emotive words. On the other hand, uncommon and literary words and complicated poetic neologisms, that most children cannot know, occur in his texts quite frequently. Meander Publishing House and Media Reflection of Edition Blue Elephant

This Master Thesis is about Meander publishing house and media reflection of three choosen titles from edition Blue Elephant. Theoretical part of this thesis introduces the development of publishing houses after the fall of communism in 1989, the development of the literature for children and youth, phenomenon of bilderbuch and the change of reading habits and reader's environment. The analytical part introduces the Meander publishing house and its edition Blue Elephant. Key artist for this edition is Petr Nikl, who is Meander's court artist as well. The analysis of media was performed on titles Záhádky by Petr Nikl, Jělěňovití by Petr Nikl and The Little's Man Great Journey by Lenka Uhlířová and Jiří Stach. The analysed media are literary and cultural magazines, newspapers and digital media.

The aim of the thesis is to find out if and how the expectations of the readers change with their literary context and to discover the extent to which the contemporary writers Petr Nikl and Philippe Lechermeier come to meet their audiences. To answer this question various methodological procedures are employed: observation and then comparison of Czech and French literary context to form the hypotheses. The hypotheses are verified by the case study based on the analyses of two books (Záhádky by Petr Nikl and Le Journal secret de Petit Poucet form Philippe Lechermeier) and on the analyses of critical reviews and comments. We discovered the writer's strategies and the expectations of the readers and we compared them with our hypotheses to make a final appraisal.
